Affordable Housing for Homeless Young Adults
In 2014, we at St. Stephen’s were stunned to learn that, on any given night, 200-300 homeless young adults live in the southwest suburbs — including right here, in Edina. After asking ourselves hard questions about how we could help reduce the homelessness that exists in our community, our parish decided to join other nearby congregations in supporting Beacon Interfaith Housing Collaborative in the development of 66 West Apartments. 66 West will provide supportive housing for southwest suburban young adults who have experienced homelessness.
In early May, 66 West will open its doors to welcome the first of 39 residents! Our commitment to supporting these young adults doesn’t stop with the completion of the building. We are committed to helping make these apartments a home by outfitting 10 of the apartments with NEW household items. The items we provide will be a part of “Dale’s Closet”, a shop located in the building, at which residents will make selections for their new home.
How Can YOU help? Donations deadline April 30
- Purchase items from the following list — Dale’s Closet List (PDF – updated 4.18) — and drop them off at the church office during the week or in the Narthex on Sundays. Please do NOT bring donations during the week of TEC (April 17-21).
- Let us do the shopping for you! In addition to the items listed in the Dale’s Closet List (PDF – updated 4.18), your cash donations will enable us to purchase larger items, housekeeping basics, toiletries, and cleaning supplies readily purchased in sets of 10.
