Compass Series: Run for Your Life

Part 3: Sanctuary Altars in the Bible

The Bible’s Models for Giving and Receiving Sanctuary

When we hear about sanctuary cities and states today, conversations often turn to politics, legality, and controversy. But long before modern debates, ancient biblical narratives and laws spoke of providing sanctuary. In fact, ancient Israel had six designated sanctuary cities – along with other places of refuge.

In this 4-part Compass series, we’ll explore the quetions – How can a biblical view of sanctuary inform our opinions today? Why did biblical law insist on these sites? What protection did they offer? And what can these biblical models reveal about God’s character and our human need for safety and mercy?

Join us for Compass, our Sunday morning Adult Formation class, as Joyce Denham guides us through this timely and thought-provoking study. Come for learning, conversation, coffee, and treats.
