This fall, Sunday Adult Formation takes on a new rhythm. Each month will center around a theme, with Sunday mornings offering different ways to explore it through Scripture and theology, conversation, guest voices and reflection.
Each month, Compass will offer an opportunity to explore the theme through a biblical and theological lens. Know Your Neighbors will welcome guest speakers to bring new voices, experiences and perspectives to the conversation. Fr. Tom Cook and Rev. Christy Stang will also lead one or more sessions, creating space to dig deeper, ask questions and reflect together.
We begin in October with The Ministry of All the Baptized:
October 4 // Compass
Guarding, Protecting, Serving: A Biblical Perspective on Ministry
What does it mean to minister, to have a ministry or to be a minister? Joyce Denham will trace the idea of ministry through the Bible’s larger story, from Genesis through Revelation, exploring how each of us is called to guard, protect and serve God’s Creation. Together, we’ll consider why that calling matters, what it looks like and what it might mean for our own lives.
October 11 // Parish Ministries Fair
There will be no 9:00 AM Adult Formation session. Instead, put the month’s theme into action at the Parish Ministries Fair following the 10:15 AM service and discover the many ways you may receive from and serve with the ministries of our parish.
October 18 // Know Your Neighbors
Our first guest speaker is Brian Ingram, founder of Hope Breakfast Bar, who will share more about his work and the ways hospitality, food and service can become ministry in the wider community.
October 25 // Forum with Tom & Christy
Fr. Tom and Rev. Christy bring the month’s conversations together for a forum exploring the Ministry of All the Baptized and what it means for our lives within St. Stephen’s community and beyond.
Coming Up
November // Episcopal Monasticism & Spiritual Disciplines
We’ll explore the Episcopal tradition of monastic life and the spiritual practices that can deepen and shape our own lives of faith. Our Know Your Neighbors guests will be visiting monks from the Society of St. John the Evangelist.
December // Holy Scripture
We’ll turn our attention to Holy Scripture, exploring how we read it, understand it and encounter God through the biblical story.
