All seniors in the parish are invited to our spring Senior Fellowship Luncheon on Thursday, May 15 when our guest speaker will be Cathy Heying, Executive Director and founder of The Lift Garage.
The Lift Garage is an affordable, non-profit auto repair service for all Minnesotans who meet the 150% Federal Poverty Guideline. When faced with an unexpected car repair, The Lift customers simply cannot afford market-rate repairs. Customers at The Lift pay $15/hour for labor and receive the parts at cost.
Born and raised in a town of 800 people in NE Iowa, Cathy has lived in Minneapolis since 1997 where she has worked in a variety of church and social service fields. Holding a BA in Social Work from Loras College in Dubuque, IA and an MA in Pastoral Ministry from St. Mary’s University in Winona, MN, Cathy returned to Dunwoody College in 2008 to receive an AS degree in Auto Technology with a vision of starting a garage to provide affordable car repair to people in need.
The Lift Garage has been open since 2013 and has since grown into a $2 million dollar organization serving over 1,500 people per year. In 2015 Cathy was named both a CNN Hero and the Irwin Tools Tradesperson of the Year.
Come hear how this longtime social worker saw a great need, went back to school to earn a degree in auto technology, and founded this amazing organization.
