St. Stephen’s Adult Pilgrimage to the Isle of Iona, Scotland|
Jul 24 – Aug 1, 2026
Iona is a small island located in the Inner Hebrides, off Scotland’s western coast. It served as a hub of Irish monasticism for four centuries, beginning in 563 with St. Columba, and is now celebrated for its peace and stunning natural scenery. Since its Christian inception, the island has maintained a near-continuous presence of monastic life and worship, making it a favored spot for religious pilgrims.
Join the Rev. Tom Cook on a spiritual pilgrimage to the Isle of Iona. Experience the rustic charm of Bishop’s House overlooking Scotland’s west coast. Engage in prayer at a retored 13th-century abbey, and explore ancient Christian sites. Immerse yourself in the island’s ruugedly breathtaking landscape while deepening your connection to God through reflection, worship, exploration, and silence.
A limited number of rooms are available in Bishop’s House, offering both double and single accommodations (all beds are twin size). Please note that sleeping arrangements are accessible only by stairs to the second floor.
Travelers are responsible for their own transportation to and from Oban, Scotland, ensuring they arrive in time for a group dinner on Friday, July 24, 2026. Fr. Tom will coordinate ferries and buses between the mainland and the island of Iona.
- Rooms, meals, leadership, and programs will cost in the expected range of $2,000 – $2,200 per person.
- Travel to and from Oban is additional at each pilgrim’s expense. The closest major airport is Glasgow, with trains running regularly to and from Oban. You will need a hotel in Oban on July 24.
- Pilgrims are expected to be present on the island as a group throughout the duration of the pilgrimage.
- Daily worship, activities, and field trips are included in the journey.
- Reserve your place on the pilgrimage with a first installment of $800 when you sign on for the trip. Further payments can be spread out on an installment payment schedule.
Pilgrims need to be in generally good health, able to use stairs and walk modest distances.
