Compass Advent Series: Part 3

The Separation of Church and Calendar

The Separation of Church and Calendar: A 3-Part Compass Advent Series

You probably know that the Christian Church, worldwide, has its own annual calendar. It comprises six seasons and multiple holy days; and as we follow it, we personally and collectively reenact the drama of Jesus’ life. Directed by the calendar, we become actors in a play!

But in many ways, Christians today are separated from our calendar—and that’s a loss for us. How can we embrace its gifts? How do its mysterious parts fit together? Where do they come from, historically? What do they mean, and why are they important to our lives? In this year’s Compass advent series, we’ll discover what the Church calendar teaches us and how living with it can deepen our faith, awaken our curiosity, and keep us walking with Jesus in ways we’ve never imagined.

Watch the weekly announcements for more details on each upcoming Compass session. This series is open to any and all at St. Stephen’s Church and beyond.

Can’t join us in person on Sunday mornings? Compass is offered live on ZOOM. Sign up for our weekly emails to receive the ZOOM link and links to video replays of each session.

CHILDREN & YOUTH ACTIVITIES

During our Adult Formation offerings from 9-10 AM on Sunday mornings, our staffed Nursery (upper-level Chapel wing) is open for children from birth to age 3. We also offer supervised Children & Youth Fellowship time in the Children’s Ministry Room just down the hall from where Compass is held.

Adult Forum presents Compass

Compass, led by Joyce Denham, is our Sunday morning Adult Formation class in which we study the literature of the Bible as our compass for life. Compass is for everyone at St. Stephen’s, and beyond. Invite others! It’s a place to make friends, laugh, and stretch our minds, as Joyce unravels the narratives and poetry of the Bible to discover what they have to say to us today. No registration. Just show up on Sunday mornings, 9 a.m., in the Commons Room.
