Affordable Housing for Homeless Young Adults
In 2014, we at St. Stephen’s were stunned to learn that, on any given night, 200-300 homeless young adults live in the southwest suburbs. Our parish has been committed to helping reduce homelessness in our community ever since and we’ve joined with other nearby congregations in supporting Beacon Interfaith Housing Collaborative in the development of 66 West Apartments. 66 West provides supportive housing for southwest suburban young adults who have experienced homelessness.
In May of 2017, 66 West opened its doors to welcome the first of 39 residents! Since that time our efforts have shifted from developing the building to helping the residents settling into their new homes through supporting efforts to gather household items and delivering handmade quilts.
