Serving God’s Children in San Mateo, Belize.
Holy Cross Anglican School is located on the island of Ambergris Caye, Belize. Founded in September 2006, the school educates 440 students from preschool to Standard 6 (8th grade). The school is located in – and draws many of it’s students from – the poorer neighborhood of San Mateo, which at one time won the dubious honor of being recognized as the most at risk community in all of Belize by the Red Cross. This means many of the families face incredible need and, though hard working, often struggle to provide the necessities for their children.
The school doesn’t just provide an education, they to provide an excellent education that meets the needs of the modern world. They also provide for the health of our students, by providing a nutritious lunch, dental care and volunteer doctors.
St. Stephen’s has been partnering with the school for many years. In fact, 3 members of our church sit on the board of the school’s Education Foundation.
In addition to financial support, youth and adult volunteers from our parish take regular mission trips down to Belize to work on construction, and maintenance projects. They also teach, help in the kitchen, and do general cleanup.
